The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. The last time it was raised was in 2009. For a working adult with one or more children, earning the minimum wage would put them below the poverty level.

As your councilwoman, I will pursue measures such as living wage ordinances, incentivizing local businesses and fighting for a higher state minimum wage.
Though reasons behind criminal behavior varied and complex, two major contributing factors are unemployment and poverty.
The perpetrators of crime tend to be males between the ages of eighteen and thirty; and those with criminal records.
What needs to be done: Increase job opportunities for the previously incarcerated; create programs and outlets for young people; increase wages and job prospects for the entire community.
